Platform 21 is the bold reimagining of one of Birmingham’s most well-known high street office spaces. Throughout its life Platform 21 has been known as The Woolworths or The Charters buildings, instantly recognised by its external ‘wall climber’ glass lift that faces onto New Street, Birmingham’s main pedestrian thoroughfare.
DP Interiors were appointed by main contractor ISG to deliver the design and install of all partitioning, ceilings, and joinery for the internal fit out for The Government Property Agency. Working across ten floors, covering 110,780 sq ft office space , DP Interiors engaged with local architects D5 architects, who jointly took responsibility for the 4b design, which involved the resolution of detail design items for joinery including feature walls and ceilings, screens and reception desk. The commission was managed using a common data environment for communication and approval of drawings for construction. Please see link D5 Architects case study – https://d5architects.net/projects/platform-21/
All internal partitions were designed and installed to full British Gypsum specification. Specification for the suspended ceilings consisted of over 800 Number Ecophon Solo acoustic baffles being installed to the open plan office areas with various SAS International ceilings being installed to kitchen areas, office areas and meeting rooms. Internal joinery such as feature walls, kitchenettes, reception desk, timber screens and internal doorsets were all manufactured and supplied by sister company Birmingham Joinery Ltd.
Birmingham continues to go through a period of drastic change and Platform 21 sits at the heart of this transformation. It is surrounded by the redevelopments of New Street Station, Grand Central and the almost 170,000sq.m Paradise scheme. With unrivalled links to local and regional transport and a prime city centre address, Platform 21 has become an important commercial office addition to a transformed Birmingham which DP Interiors are proud to have contributed to.
